Glenarm Power Plant was opened over 80 years ago. The art deco inspired project was designated a Historic Monument on February 4, 2008. Plans for its restoration and preservation began soon after led by the Art Center College of Design. Spectra Company became involved in the project after certain procedures were done incorrectly to preserve the building. Spectra Company's work included the entire exterior façade and aspects of the interior which included tile replication. In 2010, Spectra was awarded an Historic Preservation Award for this project by the City of Pasadena's Historic Preservation Commission, to recognize the work that had been completed and raise awareness about the benefits of historic preservation.
